WESTVILLE, ILL. - Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Westville for John Peter "Yonko" Lemezis,
59, of 217 Adams St. He died at 8:07 a.m. (Nov. 3, 1983) at the
Danville Veterans Administration Medical Center.
The Rev. Leo Bates will officiate. Burial will be in Ss. Peter &
Paul Cemetery in Westville. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
today at Lakeside-Urbas Funeral Home in Westville, with rosary there
at 7:30 tonight.
The family has requested that memorials be in the form of
contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.
Lemezis retired this past April as a dispatcher for Commercial
Lovelace.
He was a member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and
Martin F. Vutrick American Legion Post 51, both of Westville. He had
served as senior vice commander of the post several years ago and he
had served for six years as police magistrate of Westville.
A World War II Army veteran, he had attained the rank of
sergeant. He served in the 306th Infantry Division and received the
Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star.
He also was a member of the Moose Lodge 1001 and Elks BPOE Lodge
332, both of Danville.
Born May 14, 1924, in Westville, he was a son of Frank and Ursula
Meleiska Lemezis. He married Nicena Smith in Westville July 7, 1951.
She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, John and Frank, both of
Westville, and Zigmund of Decatur; four sisters, Nelle Kalla and Lilly
Deltuva, both of Westville, Jesse Frankino of Aurora and Rose Lilly of
LaGrande, Ore.; and a granddaughter and a stepgrandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
