Last Rites Conducted For Mrs. Wm. Tisher
Funeral services were held October 6 at 2pm at the Presbyterian
Church, Britton, for Mrs. William (Freda) Tisher, 77, who passed away
October 4. The Rev. James Brown, Aberdeen, officiated. Music was
furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kenner accompanied by Mrs. James Downie
at the organ.
Pallbearers were Raymond, Merl, Welby, and Richard Moeckly, and
Leslie and Lewis Tisher. Burial was in the Britton cemetery with the
Franzen Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. William Tisher, nee Freda Louise Plagmann, was born at
Alexandria, June 12, 1879. She spent her early years at Alexandria,
where she also received her education. On January 6, 1906, she was
married to William Tisher. To this union three children were born,
namely, Harold, Yankton; Buss, Amherst; and Mildred, Pierre. She also
has three stepsons, Irv, Houston, TX; Rolfe, Pasco, WA; and Dorn,
Amherst.
Mrs. Tisher has been a resident of the Britton-Amherst vicinity
for the past 50 years, where she was active in church and community
affairs.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters. She
is survived by the six children, three grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren, one sister and five brothers.

The following letter is from Freda (Plagmann) Tisher, wife of Wm. Tisher and mother of Harold, Donald, & Mildred Tisher. Written Dec. 2, 1955. She died the following year in Oct., 1956. We are grateful to Freda Tisher for this information that so enriches our family book and know it will mean much to all her posterity.

My folks came from Hamburg, Germany. Mother came across in a sailboat. She was 14 weeks coming across. Then they stopped at Postville, Iowa and worked when they could get work. Then they left Iowa with 75 cents and had 5 hundred dollars to pay in Iowa. Then left Iowa and came to Sioux Falls to an old friend and farmed with him a year and then started across with oxen team and stopped in Harrison Co., So. Dakota in Taylor Township and I was the first one born on the claim in a sod shanty in 1879 and I lived there till I was 27 years old.
Then I got married and we moved to Marshall Co., and I am still here living with the youngest son on the farm. The older boy lives in Yankton has a Rexal Drug store. The girl Mildred lives in Pierre and is home demonstration agent in Sully Co.
is single We lived in a sod shanty and had one cow and
dug well and pulled up the water with a pail. When the water got low we gave the cow her own milk to drink and Mother scythed the hay by hand and twisted it by hand. We children picked cow chips to burn and my dad walked 8 miles to work and back straight and got 75 cents a day.
Harold has 2 children, boy and girl. Buss (Donald) has
four girls and one boy. The first year my Dad broke up 30 Acres
and put it in flax and the hail took every acre, never har¬vested it. Then he worked in the timber all winter and dug out stumps by hand. Just think how they do even the chores
don't touch a fork, all with tractor. Well must close write sometime and how is everyone out there?
